Cold and Flu Prevention Tips

Five Healthy Tips
We know that most students do what they can to stay healthy. By eating a variety of healthy foods, sleeping 7-8 hours a night, and maintaining a physically active lifestyle, KU students stay ahead of the curve. But sometimes you still get sick. Here are some tips on how to stay healthy. If you have any questions, call us at KU Student Health Services 864-9570. For a pdf of all five tips, click here

Tip #1 - Keep away from those who are sick.

Avoid close contact with people who are sick. When you are sick, keep your distance from others to protect them from getting sick too.

Tip #2 - Keep it covered. Always cover you mouth and nose.

Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your elbow when coughing or sneezing. It may prevent those around you from getting sick.

Tip #3 - Keep it clean. Wash your hands often.

Washing your hands often will help protect you from germs. Wash your hands with soap and warm water for 20 seconds or clean them with an alcohol-based hand cleaner. Hum the KU fight song while you wash your hands.

Tip #4 - Keep germs from spreading by not touching your eyes, nose or mouth.

Germs are often spread when a person touches something that is contaminated with germs and then touches his or her eyes, nose, or mouth.

Tip #5 - Keep yourself and your community healthy. Get a flu shot.

Get plenty of sleep, be physically active, manage your stress, drink plenty of fluids, eat nutritious food and get a flu shot.
