SHS - Laboratory

Any commercially available lab test ordered by your Watkins provider or your doctor at home can be accommodated. Please ask your doctor at home to include diagnosis with his/her order.

Appointments are not necessary.

Registered Medical Technologists, certified by The American Society of Clinical Pathology, staff the department.

The Laboratory Department supports KU students by performing blood draws for research projects or potential bone marrow donors.

Lab results are given to the ordering provider and also placed in the student's medical record at Watkins as soon as they are available. Watkins policy is that the student has to get the lab results from a provider or nurse so that they can answer any questions about ongoing care and medications. This can be accomplished by calling 864-9500, pressing 0 for operator and leaving your name and number for a call back. You may also make an appointment to see a provider through the appointment desk at 785.864.9507. If an outside doctor is seen, results can be obtained from them. Watkins lab is not allowed to release the results directly to students. Pap smear results are mailed to students at the address specified after we receive the results from the pathologist. A special request is not necessary for this service.
