KU Immunization Compliance

The University of Kansas-Lawrence campus requires that all newly enrolled or re-enrolled students born on or after January 1, 1957 show proof of two vaccinations for Measles, Mumps and Rubella prior to enrollment. Previous history of disease does not satisfy the requirement. Laboratory test results are required.

An administrative "HOLD" is placed on future enrollment/registration until immunization history and/or titer results are presented to Student Health Services located within Watkins Memorial Health Center.

"Administrative HOLD" means that the student is unable to enroll, or to obtain transcripts or a diploma.

If you have additional immunization questions, please call (785) 864-9533.
Also, see our Immunization Compliance Services web page.

Student Housing Immunization Policy

The University of Kansas-Lawrence Campus requires all students starting residence in KU Department of Student Housing residence halls, scholarship halls and Jayhawker Towers to receive the meningitis vaccination.

Student Health Services also strongly recommends that all students, especially those living in other forms of group housing, such as sorority/fraternity houses, Naismith Hall, etc. receive the vaccination.

All students starting residence in University owned group housing must either provide written documentation of immunization or sign a waiver to indicate they have been informed about the disease and vaccine and have chosen not to be immunized.

Non-compliant students will be placed on administrative HOLD following the first week of classes and remain on administrative HOLD until the compliance is documented with Student Health Services.

"Administrative HOLD" means that the student is unable to enroll, or to obtain transcripts or a diploma.

Tuberculosis Screening for International Students

All newly enrolled or re-enrolled international students are required to have tuberculosis (TB) screening upon arrival at KU.

A TB blood test will be done during International Student Orientation physicals, unless documented results are presented for a blood test performed in the U.S. within the past 12 months.

Documentation must be presented for any prior treatment for latent or active tuberculosis and a chest X-ray will be required.

Chest X-rays will also be required for any student with a positive or indeterminate TB blood test, unless documentation of a normal X-ray performed in the U.S. within the past six months is presented.

All newly-enrolled international students are required to complete the entire tuberculosis screening process. Failure to do so will result in dis-enrollment and subsequent notification to the Office of International Students and Scholars that you are no longer enrolled.
