Regarding Health Insurance...
Success in a university setting depends on many things, including a student's health and if they are protected from unexpected health related costs. Because the potential for financial hardship is so great in health related situations, students are strongly encouraged to have health insurance.
To assist students in this goal, The Kansas Board of Regents, in cooperation with the universities in Kansas, sponsors a voluntary health insurance plan designed specifically with students in mind. This plan is underwritten by United HealthCare/Student Resources and offers comprehensive benefits for a reasonable premium. For more information on this insurance plan, or to enroll, go to https://www.uhcsr.com/ku.
If you have insurance through another insurance plan, please review it for any "prior authorization" or "referral" requirements from your insurance company. It is your responsibility to ask your carrier if Student Health Services (SHS) at KU is "in-network" for your plan. This will make a difference in any charges for which you may be responsible. Provided with the appropriate information upon your initial visit, SHS can file claims with your insurance carrier, with the exception of Medicare, Medicaid, or HealthWave as we are not a participating provider.
