SHS - Meet Our Providers


Physicians

Watkins Memorial Health Center has nine physicians to provide for the health care needs of KU students. Six of the nine physicians are graduates of The University of Kansas. Students can request the physician of their choice by appointment. All physicians are board certified.

Board certification is a nationally recognized symbol of quality signifying that a physician not only received a minimum of three years additional training beyond medical school in a medical specialty area and passed a comprehensive 2-3 day examination. Areas of specialty training include internal medicine, family practice, gynecology, and emergency medicine.

A fellowship is a professional organization is granted to individuals demonstration advanced achievement in their field of medicine. This achievement is awarded nationwide to a select number of physicians. Watkins Student Health Center physician profiles are provided below:
Patricia Denning, M.D. Patricia Denning, M.D., F.A.C.P. is our Chief of Staff and has worked at Watkins since 1990. She graduated from the University of Kansas School of Medicine in 1982. Dr. Denning is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and is a Fellow in the American College of Physicians (FACP). A Lawrence indigent clinic for medically needy citizens, Health Care Access, is where Dr. Denning serves as a volunteer physician. Also, Dr. Denning serves as a board member for the Douglas County Dental Clinic, as well as for the Lawrence Memorial Hospital Endowment Board. Dr. Denning is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine and is the Director of the Travel and Immunization Clinic at the Student Health Center.

William Brandenberger, M.D. William Brandenberger, MD is the Coordinator of Urgent Care and a Senior Staff Physician. He received his BA in English from Westmar College in 1965, and his MD from The University of Kansas Medical Center in 1977. He is Board Certified in Family Practice and Emergency Medicine.





Robert Brown, M.D. Robert Brown, M.D. has been one of our Staff Physicians since 1997. He received his MD from The University of Kansas Medical Center in 1987. Dr. Brown completed residency in Family Practice at Northridge Hospital Medical Center in 1990 and is Board Certified in Family Practice. He enjoys spending time with his family, playing music, traveling, and reading.



William Dixon, M.D. William Dixon, M.D. is one of our Staff Physicians. He received his BA from Vanderbilt University in 1969, his MD from The University of Missouri in 1974, and his MPH from St. Louis University in 1996. He is Board Certified in Internal Medicine. He enjoys music and various non-contact sports.



Carolyn Johnson, M.D. Carolyn Johnson, M.D. joined our medical staff in August 2005. She is board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and is a Fellow of the American Board of Ob-Gyn. She received her B.A. from Kansas State University and her medical degree from the University of Kansas in 1988. She completed residency training at the University of Texas, and she was in private practice here in Lawrence for 13 years before joining the staff at Watkins.



Leah Luckeroth, M.D. Leah Luckeroth, M.D. is also one of our Staff Physicians. She has been at Watkins since 1993. She received her BA in Chemistry & Microbiology from the University of Kansas in 1980 and her MD from University of Kansas Medical Center in 1986. She is Board Certified in Internal Medicine. She is the Director of TB screening and evaluation and supervises the treatment of latent TB.



Randall Rock, M.D. Randall Rock, MD is a Senior Staff Physician and has served as Chief of Staff and Associate Director of Health Education. He has been at Watkins for 14 years. He received a bachelors degree in biology from The University of Kansas in 1979 and graduated from The University of Kansas School of Medicine in 1983. He completed training in Family Practice at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita in 1986. He is Board Certified in Family Practice medicine and is a fellow of the American Academy of Family Practice.


Myra Strother,MD Myra Strother, M.D. has been at the Student Health Service for 14 years. She received her MD from The University of Missouri in 1986 and her BS in microbiology. Dr. Strother is Board Certified in Family Practice and a Fellow with the American Academy of Family Medicine. She was Chief of Staff one year. She is a medical technologist and is medical supervisor of our laboratory. She is also very interested and involved in The Student Health Services Medical Quality Care and Emergency Response.
