SHS - Meet Our Nurse Practitioner Providers
What Is A Nurse Practitioner?
A Nurse Practitioner (NP) or in Kansas our official name is Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP)
is a registered nurse (RN) with advanced academic and clinical experience, which enables her or him to
diagnose and manage most common and many chronic illnesses, either independently or as part of a health
care team. Nurse practitioners provide care previously offered only by physicians and in most states
have the ability to prescribe medications. NP's focus largely on health maintenance, disease prevention,
counseling, and patient education in a wide variety of settings. Most NP's specialize in a particular
area of health care, but many work in primary and acute care settings, such as, college health.
