SHS- Student Insurance Information

Success in the university setting depends on many things, one being a student's health and whether or not they have protection from unexpected health related costs. Because the potential for financial hardship is so great in health related situations, KU strongly recommends that each student be covered by health insurance. How about your student? Do they have health insurance? Are they covered by your policy? Will they soon be ineligible for such coverage?

Based on enabling legislation passed in 2006, the Kansas Board of Regents (KBOR) developed a voluntary health insurance plan for eligible students attending Regent universities, which replaces all previously sponsored student insurance plans. The new KBOR plan is underwritten by United HealthCare – Student Resources and is designed to provide good basic coverage at an affordable price. Coverage is provided for eligible domestic and international students in both undergraduate and graduate programs. For an outline of the benefits and premium structure for the plan, click on the link below:

The KBOR plan becomes available August 1, 2007 and can be purchased either for the 12-month plan year or by the semester. The policy year is from August 1 through July 31 of each year. For specific questions about the plan, please contact KU Student Health Services at 785-864-9522, or Student Resources at 888-344-6104.
